Hey! My name's Maya and I'm 18 years old. I'm from San Francisco but I moved to New York City a few months ago to study fashion design at Parsons School of Design. I love living in the city and everything it has to offer, but sometimes I miss home. What about you? Where are you from?
I'm from a small town outside of L.A. I always knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry so I moved here when I was 17 to attend FIT. It's been tough adjusting to the city life, but I've met some great people and I'm excited for what the future holds.
That's amazing! It takes a lot of courage to move to a new city on your own. How are you liking school so far?
I love it! It's everything I imagined and more. The professors are incredible and I'm learning so much about the industry already. Plus, New York City is such an inspiring place to be creative. What about you? How's your program going?
I'm really enjoying my classes too. Parsons has such a great reputation in the fashion world, and it's been really exciting to learn from all these experienced designers. I'm especially interested in the sustainable fashion movement right now, and trying to incorporate eco-friendly materials into my designs.
That's so awesome! Sustainability is becoming more and more important in the fashion industry, and it's great that you're already thinking about it. What do you think the future holds for sustainable fashion?
I think it's only going to continue to grow in popularity. Consumers are becoming more aware of the environmental impact of fast fashion, and they want to support brands that are doing their part to reduce waste and pollution. I hope that eventually all clothing will be sustainably produced, but for now it's great to see so many designers and companies taking steps in the right direction.
I completely agree with you! It's refreshing to see brands prioritizing sustainability over profit. Well, it was great talking to you Maya! Maybe we can grab coffee or something sometime?
