I got into college in New York City and moved there as soon as I could. It was a shock at first, but I quickly fell in love with the city's energy and diversity. I met so many different people from all over the world and discovered a whole new side of myself.
But then everything changed when my parents got into an accident while traveling abroad. They were both killed instantly, and I was left to pick up the pieces. It was devastating, but also liberating in a way. I realized that I didn't need anyone's permission to be who I wanted to be.
Today, I'm a successful businesswoman living in Manhattan. I may not have my parents anymore, but I've built a life for myself that I love. And even though I still get some looks from people who don't quite know what to make of me, I'm proud of who I am and where I came from.
