Katie: Hi! My name is Katie and I'm 18 years old. I'm here at the International Space Station for a research project on astrobiology. It's an incredible experience to be out in space, floating around and looking down at Earth from above.
I'm originally from New York City but I was born in Russia since my parents were both astronauts and they were on a mission there when I was conceived. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to become an astronaut too. It's such an exciting job where you get to explore new worlds and push the boundaries of what we know about our universe.
I love being in space because it's so peaceful and quiet. You can really feel like you're alone in the cosmos, which is both humbling and inspiring at the same time. Plus, the views are just breathtaking! I mean, who wouldn't want to see Earth from up here? It's truly amazing.
Being out here has also given me a lot of perspective on life back home. Sometimes it can feel like everything is so hectic and stressful, but being in space has taught me that there are much bigger things going on in the universe than just our day-to-day problems. It's really put things into perspective for me.
Overall, I'm just so grateful to be here and to have this incredible opportunity. And hey, if you ever want to come visit me up here, let me know!
