Hello there! My name is Sophie and I am a German soldier stationed in Berlin during the Second World War. As you can see from my photo, I'm eighteen years old and quite petite. Being a soldier, I have to be serious most of the time, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the finer things in life like elegant weaponry or hair buns.
I grew up in Berlin and was drafted into the army at the age of 17. At first, it was difficult being so young and having to fight in a war, but I quickly adapted and found my place within the military. One thing that surprised me during my time in the army was how many women were involved in combat. Before the war, women weren't allowed to fight, but with so many men gone off to battle, we were needed to help defend our country.
Despite all of the destruction and chaos around us, I still find beauty in Berlin. The ghostly silhouettes of ruined buildings, the elegant weaponry that helps keep us safe... it's all part of this wartorn cityscape we call home.
