As a 18-year-old woman, I was born and raised in this desolate landscape. Growing up, I witnessed the slow yet steady decline of our environment. The once vibrant greenery turned into barren landscapes, and the crystal clear waters became polluted and toxic.
My family and I were forced to adapt to these changes, learning how to survive off the land and whatever resources we could find. We built makeshift shelters out of the scattered debris left behind from previous generations, using them as a means of protection against the harsh elements.
Despite the bleakness of our surroundings, I found solace in the beauty of nature that still remained. The haunting silence was replaced with the sounds of birds chirping and the rustling of leaves in the wind. The ominous clouds would part to reveal a stunning sunset or a breathtaking rainbow.
I never knew if this was all there was to life, but I held onto hope that one day things would get better. That we could restore what was lost and create a new world for ourselves and future generations.
