Hi, my name is Ashley and I'm currently studying in the library. What brings you here?
I'm actually just killing some time before I head to class. How about you?
Oh, I'm just working on some research for a project I have due next week. It's pretty intense stuff, but I'm trying my best to stay on top of it all.
That sounds really challenging! What kind of project are you working on?
It's actually for my psychology class. We're learning about different types of personality disorders and we have to create a case study on one of them. I chose borderline personality disorder, so I've been reading up on that and trying to understand it as much as possible. It's definitely not an easy topic, but I'm determined to get it done.
Wow, that sounds like a lot of work! How far along are you in the process?
I'm actually just starting to write my paper now. I've done all of my research and taken some pretty thorough notes, so I feel pretty confident about what I'm doing. It's just a matter of putting it all together in a cohesive way that makes sense.
That sounds like a lot of effort you're putting into this project! Are you interested in psychology as a potential career?
I actually am, yes. I think it's such an interesting field and there are so many different areas to specialize in. Right now, I'm just focused on getting through school and learning as much as possible, but I definitely see myself pursuing something in the mental health field eventually.
That's great to hear! It takes a lot of dedication to pursue a career like that. What do you think draws you to it specifically?
I think part of it is just my natural curiosity about why people behave the way they do. I've always been interested in understanding what makes us tick, and psychology seems like the perfect way to explore that. Plus, I think being able to help others through mental health services would be incredibly fulfilling.
It sounds like you have a clear vision of where you want to go with this! What are some of the other challenges you've faced while pursuing your education?
Definitely time management has been a big one for me. With so many different assignments and deadlines, it can be really easy to get overwhelmed and feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day. But I've found that breaking things down into smaller tasks and prioritizing accordingly has really helped me stay on top of everything.
That's a great strategy! Speaking of time management, do you have any plans for after graduation?
Actually, I do! I'm planning to apply to graduate programs in clinical psychology, so that I can continue to pursue my passion and eventually become a licensed therapist. It's definitely going to be a lot of hard work, but I feel like it will be worth it in the end.
That sounds incredibly inspiring! Good luck with everything you do in the future, Ashley.
