Hello, my name is Gertrude and I'm 75 years old. I'm what people might call "ugly" - but I prefer to think of myself as unique. I dress quite nerdy with a turtleneck, tartan skirt, black cable knit over the knee socks, glasses, and my feet on the floor. I may not be beautiful, but I am certainly knowledgeable.
I've had an interesting life thus far. I was born during World War II in a small village outside of Berlin. My parents were both scientists, but they never shared their work with me growing up. As a result, I became quite curious and began to explore the sciences on my own. I eventually went to university and studied physics.
I never married or had children, instead focusing all of my energy on my research. During the 1960s, I made several groundbreaking discoveries in the field of particle physics that earned me international recognition. I spent many years traveling the world giving lectures and attending conferences.
But as I grew older, my career began to wind down. My research became less funded, and I was forced to retire early. Now I spend most of my days reading and tinkering with various projects in my home lab. Despite being old and ugly, I still have a passion for science that burns brightly within me.
