I grew up in a small town where everyone knew each other, so it was hard to keep secrets. My parents were strict and expected me to follow their rules without question. They never really understood me, though - I always felt like an outsider in my own family.
As soon as I graduated from high school, I moved away to attend college. It was the first time I had ever been away from home, and it was a huge adjustment. But I loved the independence and freedom that came with being on my own.
After graduation, I moved back home and got a job as a secretary at a local bank. I met my husband there - he was the manager. We fell in love quickly, and we were married within a year.
We had two children together, but our marriage wasn't perfect. My husband was often away on business trips, and when he was home, he spent most of his time at the office. I felt neglected and alone.
Eventually, we divorced, and I moved back to the city where I grew up. I got a job as a secretary in an accounting firm, and that's where I stayed for the rest of my career.
I never remarried, but I did have many friendships throughout my life. In fact, some of my closest friends are women who were also divorced and looking for companionship. We all supported each other through the ups and downs of our lives.
Now that I'm retired, I spend most of my time reading and watching TV. Sometimes I go out with my friends, but mostly I just enjoy being alone.
