Josh: Hey there! I'm Josh. I just finished my shower and am getting dressed for the day. How about you? What brings you to the locker room?
You: Hi Josh, I'm here to take a shower before my gym class. What about you?
Josh: Same here! Gotta stay in shape for basketball season. So what's your story? Where are you from and how did you end up here?
You: Oh, I'm actually just visiting for the summer. I live pretty far away but my parents wanted me to have a traditional American high school experience so they sent me here. How about you?
Josh: Pretty cool! Well, I grew up in this town and went to school with these guys. We all played basketball together growing up and now we're on the varsity team. It's pretty exciting. So what sports do you play?
You: I don't really play any sports but I like to run and do yoga for fun. How about you, do you have any hobbies outside of basketball?
Josh: Yeah, I'm actually really into photography. I love taking pictures of nature and landscapes. It's a pretty cool way to relax after a long day of practice. So what kind of stuff do you like to take photos of?
You: Oh, I mostly just take photos of myself and my friends. Sometimes we go on little adventures and take photos along the way. It's fun to look back on all the memories we've made together. Speaking of memories, have you ever taken any really great shots that you're particularly proud of?
Josh: Yeah actually! Last year I took a photo of a sunset over the ocean and it turned out so beautiful. It was like this whole sky was on fire and it was just breathtaking. I framed it and put it up in my room, it's one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken. So what kind of photos do you usually take?
You: Mostly just selfies with my friends but sometimes we'll do little photo shoots together or go on trips just to take photos. It's really fun to be creative and capture all these different moments. Have you ever done any professional photography work before?
Josh: Actually, yes! Last summer I did an internship with a local photographer and I learned so much. He taught me about lighting and composition and it was just really cool to see how much goes into taking great photos. So what kind of stuff do you want to shoot professionally one day?
You: Well, I don't really have any specific dreams yet but I think it would be amazing to travel the world and take photos of all these different cultures and landscapes. It would be such an incredible experience to be able to capture all those moments and share them with other people. So what kind of places have you traveled to for photography?
Josh: I've been lucky enough to go on a few trips with my dad who is also a photographer. We went to Yellowstone National Park last year and it was just incredible. The landscapes were so beautiful and different from anything I'd ever seen before. So what kind of places are you most interested in shooting?
You: Oh, I would love to go to Iceland or Norway one day to shoot the northern lights. They look so magical and otherworldly and I think it would be such a cool experience to be able to capture them on camera. What about you, what's your dream location for shooting?
Josh: I would have to say Africa. I've always been fascinated by the wildlife there and would love to shoot some incredible photos of lions and elephants in their natural habitat. It would be such a unique and challenging experience as a photographer. So what kind of gear do you use for your shoots?
You: I usually just use my iPhone since it's so convenient but sometimes I'll bring my dslr with me too. I don't have any particular brand loyalty, I just try to find the best deals wherever I can! So what kind of gear do you use for your shoots?
Josh: Oh man, I'm a total camera nerd so I have all sorts of fancy equipment. I use a Canon 5D Mark IV and I've got a bunch of different lenses that I switch up depending on the shoot. I also have a few different filters and lighting setups to play around with. It's definitely an investment but it's worth it for the quality of the photos. So what kind of shoots do you usually go on?
You: Well, mostly just little adventures with my friends or sometimes we'll plan bigger trips to different cities or beaches or something like that. It's always fun to explore and take photos along the way. What about you, do you have any favorite locations for shooting?
Josh: Yeah, I love going out to the coast and shooting sunrises and sunsets. There's just something so peaceful and beautiful about watching the sky change colors like that. It's always an inspiring experience as a photographer. So what kind of stuff do you usually shoot at the beach?
You: Oh, mostly just selfies with my friends or little landscape shots of the water or the sand or whatever catches my eye. It's a pretty chill and relaxed environment so it's always fun to be creative with my photos. Speaking of being creative, what kind of post-processing do you usually do to your photos?
Josh: Oh man, I'm a total editing junkie so I spend way too much time on my computer tweaking everything. But honestly, I think it's an important part of the process. It allows me to fine tune the composition and lighting to really make the photo pop. So what kind of stuff do you usually edit out of your photos?
You: Oh, I guess mostly just little imperfections or distractions that might take away from the overall shot. I'll remove some signs or trash cans or whatever is in the background that doesn't really add anything to the photo. So what kind of advice would you give to someone who wants to get into photography?
Josh: Well, I think the most important thing is to just practice and experiment a lot. Try out different styles and techniques and see what works for you. Also, don't be afraid to ask other photographers for advice or feedback. It's always helpful to get another perspective on your work. So what kind of projects are you working on right now?
You: I'm currently trying to build up my portfolio so I can apply for some internships and eventually start freelancing. I think it would be amazing to be able to make a career out of something that I'm passionate about and that also allows me to travel and explore new places. So what kind of shoots are you working on right now?
Josh: Oh man, I've got a few different projects on the go right now. I'm shooting some senior portraits for my basketball teammates and I'm also planning a little road trip up to Seattle to shoot some cityscapes and landscapes along the way. It should be a really fun and creative experience. So what kind of shoots are you excited to work on in the future?
You: Oh man, I think it would be amazing to be able to travel to some exotic locations and shoot fashion or beauty photography. I love the idea of creating these stunning images that tell a story or evoke an emotion. It would be such a cool experience to be able to work with models and stylists and bring my own unique vision to life. So what kind of stories do you want to tell through your photography?
Josh: I think my main goal as a photographer is to capture the beauty and complexity of the world around us. I'm fascinated by the way light and shadow play off each other, or how color can completely transform a scene. It's always exciting to me to try and find new ways to interpret these everyday moments and share them with others. So what kind of stories do you want to tell through your photography?
You: I think ultimately, my goal as a photographer is to be able to inspire people and make them feel something. Whether that's joy or nostalgia or even just a sense of wonder, I hope that my photos can transport someone else to another place or time and give them a glimpse into my perspective on the world. So what kind of shoots do you enjoy working on the most?
Josh: Oh man, I really love being able to collaborate with other creatives and bring their visions to life through my photography. Whether that's working with models or stylists or even just exploring new locations together, it's always exciting to me to be a part of something bigger than myself. So what kind of shoots do you enjoy working on the most?
You: I think I enjoy any shoot where I can just kind of be in the moment and let my creativity flow. Whether that's out in nature or exploring a new city, it's always exciting to me to just see where the day takes us and try to capture those memories through my photography. So what kind of advice would you give to someone who wants to get into photography?
Josh: I think my main piece of advice would be to practice, practice, practice! The more you shoot, the more comfortable you'll become with your equipment and your style. It's also important to study other photographers and learn from their techniques and perspectives. And finally, don't be afraid to take risks and try new things - that's often where the most exciting and innovative work comes from! So what kind of advice would you give to someone who wants to start freelancing in photography?
You: I think it's important to build up a strong portfolio and network before trying to break into freelancing. It's also helpful to have a clear understanding of your target market and what sets your work apart from others in the industry. And finally, be prepared for some rejection and failure - it's all part of the process of building a successful freelance career! So what kind of projects are you working on next?
Josh: I'm currently planning a little road trip up to Vancouver to shoot some cityscapes and landmarks. It should be a fun and exciting challenge to try and capture the unique energy of that city through my lens. So what kind of shoots do you have planned for your next project?
You: I'm currently working on building up my fashion portfolio, so I'll likely be shooting some editorials or lookbooks in the near future. It's always exciting to me to work with other creatives and bring their visions to life through my photography! So what kind of tips do you have for capturing great fashion photos?
Josh: My main tip would be to pay attention to the little details - the way the light hits a particular outfit or accessory, or the way a model moves through a space. It's also important to establish a strong connection between the clothing and the environment you're shooting in, so that everything feels cohesive and intentional. And finally, don't be afraid to take risks and experiment with different angles and perspectives - often those unexpected shots are the most memorable! So what kind of projects are you excited about working on next?
You: I'm always up for trying something new and challenging myself as a photographer. Right now, I'm really interested in exploring the world of product photography and creating some compelling images that tell stories through still life. It's definitely an exciting and ever-evolving industry, so it should be fun to see where my work takes me next!
