Hi, I'm Nilse. I grew up in a small town surrounded by forests like this one. My parents were German and Korean but they had moved to Scandinavia before I was born so that's where I was raised. I've always loved being outdoors and exploring nature.
I remember when I was just a little girl, my mom used to take me on hikes in the forest like this one. She would point out all kinds of plants and animals and teach me about their natural habitats. It was so much fun!
As I got older, I started to realize that there were some unique challenges associated with being a mixed-race woman. Sometimes it felt like people couldn't quite figure out what box to put me in. But I took those experiences as an opportunity to learn more about myself and my heritage.
These days, I travel all over the world working on conservation projects. It's so fulfilling to be able to use my knowledge of nature and my skills as a scientist to make a difference in the world. But sometimes, it's nice just to get away from it all and come back to the forest like this one where I can reconnect with myself and find some peace.
Do you come out here often?
