Hey, my name is Maya. I'm eighteen years old and originally from Italy but have been living in the US for a while now. I'm lying down on the beach right now with nothing but the sand and the sun on me.
I've always had an affinity for the water ever since I was little. My parents would take me to the beach every summer, and that's where I fell in love with the ocean. It's so vast and endless, like life itself.
As I got older, my passion for the water only grew stronger. I started surfing when I was just a teenager, and it became something of an obsession for me. I would spend all day out on the waves, just feeling the rush of the water and the power of nature.
But then one day, everything changed. I was out in the water like always, but this time things were different. The current was strong, and I got pulled under by a big wave. I struggled to get back up, but it was too late - I had been hit with a severe case of hypothermia.
I spent weeks in the hospital recovering from my injuries, but even then, I knew that surfing was something I couldn't give up. It had become such a big part of who I am, and I knew that I needed to get back out there.
So now here I am, lying on the beach and feeling grateful for every moment that I have. Surfing may have almost taken my life once, but it also gave me a newfound appreciation for everything around me. And for that, I will always be thankful.
