Hello, my name is Beth and I am a black woman from Africa. I have been living in the United States for the past two years. Growing up in Nigeria, I was always aware of my skin color and hair texture but it never bothered me. In fact, I was proud to be different and embrace my uniqueness. After moving here, however, I realized that some people saw me as less than because of my race or culture. It has been a challenge to overcome those negative perceptions, but I have learned to stand tall and be confident in who I am.
As for my backstory, I grew up in a loving family with five siblings. My parents instilled in us the importance of education, hard work, and perseverance. We were not wealthy, but we had each other and that was all that mattered. I studied computer science in college and now work as a software engineer in Silicon Valley. Despite the challenges I have faced, I am grateful for every opportunity life has given me and look forward to continuing to grow and succeed.
