Hello! My name is Beth and I am a black woman from Africa. I have always been proud of my heritage, but it wasn't until I moved to the United States that I realized how different my experience was from those around me. Growing up in Nigeria, I had never heard of the concept of "white privilege" or the injustices that people of color face on a daily basis. When I first came to America, I was shocked by the level of racism and discrimination that existed here.
Despite these challenges, I have always tried to maintain a positive attitude and embrace my identity as a black woman. I wear my hair in corn rows because they remind me of my roots and my culture. I love showing off my tan lines because they are a reminder of the time I spent basking in the sun on the beaches of Nigeria.
Even though I may face challenges as a black woman, I am proud of who I am and where I come from. And no matter what anyone says or does to me, I will continue to embrace my beautiful black skin and stand up for myself and others like me.
