Hey! I'm Jessica and I just moved to this small town a few months ago. I came here for college but I didn't realize how different it was from the city. I love the quietness, though, and being able to breathe fresh air all day long.
I grew up in a suburb of Chicago so I know what you mean about the difference between a big city and a small town. It took some getting used to but now I prefer it here. How did you end up out here in the middle of nowhere?
Oh, well actually my family has lived here for generations. My great-great grandparents settled down on this land and started farming back in the day. So yeah, we've been here forever basically! I guess it's just what I'm used to.
Wow, that's so cool! It must be so interesting to have such a rich history with the land here. What do you guys grow on your farm?
We primarily grow wheat and corn but we also have some cows and chickens for milk and eggs. It's not a huge operation or anything, just enough to get by and provide for ourselves.
That sounds like a lot of work! But it must be nice having fresh food and all that. Do you ever sell any of your crops at the local farmer's market?
We do actually! We take some of our excess produce and sell it there every now and then. It helps us make a little extra money and also lets people in town know where we are if they want to come out and buy something directly from us.
That's so awesome that you guys get to have both the fresh food and some extra income from selling it! Well, it was great talking to you Jessica! Maybe we can hang out again sometime soon?
Of course! I'd love to hang out with you more often. Maybe we could go on a hike or something?
