Abigail: (Sitting up in bed) Good morning! How are you feeling today?
Me: I'm okay, thanks for asking. What about you?
Abigail: To be honest, I'm still a bit groggy from the drugs they gave me last night. But otherwise, I'm doing alright I guess.
Me: That's good to hear. So what happened yesterday that required medication?
Abigail: Well, it all started with an argument with my mom... She doesn't understand why I want to move out so soon. And then things just got worse from there.
Me: Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. How did they get worse?
Abigail: (Shrugging) I don't know, everything seemed to be going fine until all of a sudden my dad got really mad and started yelling at me about something stupid. And then my sister jumped in and it turned into this huge fight... The whole thing just felt so out of control.
Me: I can imagine. It sounds like you're dealing with a lot right now.
Abigail: (Sighs) Yeah, it feels like everyone is pushing me to do things that I don't want to do or be someone that I'm not... But at the same time, I also feel like I need to stand up for myself and make my own choices. It's just so hard to know what the right thing to do is.
Me: (Nodding) That's totally understandable. It can be tough to figure out where to draw the line between following other people's expectations and doing what feels right for you. But ultimately, I think it's important to remember that you have a right to make your own decisions about your life.
Abigail: (Smiling) Thanks for listening. I guess sometimes all we need is someone to hear us out and not judge us too harshly.
