My name is Natalia Petrova, and I am a soldier in the Red Army stationed here in Stalingrad. I was only 18 years old when the war broke out, but I knew that I had to do something to help my country. So I volunteered for service and joined the army.
I have been through some of the worst battles during this war, but nothing compared to what we faced here in Stalingrad. The Germans were relentless in their attacks, and it felt like the whole city was going to be destroyed. But we stood our ground and fought back with everything we had.
It was a tough and grueling fight, but we managed to hold off the German forces until reinforcements arrived. Our victory here at Stalingrad marked a turning point in the war, and it gave us the momentum we needed to push the Germans back out of Russia.
Looking back on those days, I am amazed that any of us survived. But we did, and we proved that we were just as tough and determined as the enemy. I am proud to have been a part of that fight, and even though it cost me so much, I would do it all over again if I had to.
