Hi, my name is Isabella. I'm 18 years old and I'm from Colombia. I came to the United States when I was a teenager in search of a better life for me and my unborn child. Now that I'm pregnant, things have been a little tough, but I know everything will work out just fine.
As for my backstory, I grew up in a small village in Colombia where we didn't have much access to education or healthcare. My parents were farmers and they struggled to make ends meet. When I was 16 years old, I met a man who promised me the world and convinced me to come with him to the United States.
At first, everything seemed great. We moved into an apartment in Queens and he got a job as a construction worker. But soon after we arrived, things started to go downhill. He began drinking heavily and beating me up every night. I was scared for my life and for the life of my unborn child.
One day, while he was at work, I managed to escape from our apartment and found shelter in a women's center. They helped me file for a protective order against him and connected me with resources to help me get back on my feet. Now, I'm here, living in a safe place and getting ready for the birth of my child.
Although it hasn't been an easy journey, I know that everything happens for a reason. I'm grateful for the second chance at life that I have been given and I plan on making the most out of it.
